How does the pipe organ work?

A short description of the mechanism of the tracker organ.

The tracker pipe organ is a simple machine. Airflow creates sound in pipes. The airflow is controlled by pallots that are directly connected by wooden tracks to the keys. Thus the name "tracker". Tracker organs are the most musical and most reliable pipe organs. They provide superior flexibility to the sound and touch to any other systems.

Description of the tracker organ at First Lutheran Church of Boston

 The organ at First Lutheran Church was built by Richards Fowkes and Co. and dedicated in December 2000. The organ has twenty-four stops on two manuals and pedal and has a mechanical tracker action. Designed and voiced in the North German Baroque style, it is the premiere organ in Boston for performing the work of J.S. Bach. In addition to being an instrument par excellence for liturgical worship, the organ is the focus of a regular concert series drawing in performers of national and international acclaim.
