A versatile concert organist and recording artist, Balint Karosi is an accomplished composer, harpsichordist and improviser who is noted for his elegant style, improvisations, and for his original compositions. His impressive resume of triumphs at prestigious international performance competitions includes first prize at the 16th International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition in Leipzig, Germany, first prize and audience prize at the Dublin International Organ Competition, first prize at the Arthur Poister Organ Competition, and first prize and audience prize at the Miami International Organ Competition. As a clarinetist he was also a prizewinner of the Prague Spring International Clarinet Competition in 2002.  In 2009, he received the Prima Primissima Junior Prize for music, which honors the most distinguished performers of his native Hungary.     


As a recording artist, Karosi recorded three commercial CD recordings, and has recorded for  DunaTV, the Bartök Radio stations in Hungary and his recordings have been aired on NPR and WGBH, Boston.


Karosi was commissioned to write several work for the new organ at the National Concert Hall in Budapest, Hungary, including Consonances, a concerto for organ and symphony orchestra, that  was broadcast on American Public Media’s “Pipedreams” program. One volume of his compositions have been published by Wayne Leupold Editions and four volumes are to be published this year by Concordia Publishing House.


Karosi studied at the Liszt Academy in Budapest, the Conservatoire Superieure de Genève with Lionel Rogg, and the Oberlin Conservatory of Music with James David Christie earning two master’s degrees, two Prix de Virtuosité as well as both an Artist Diploma and a Master of Music degree in historical keyboard performance. 


Karosi resides in Boston, where he is organist and director of music at the First Lutheran Church. Besides his busy performance schedule he is teaching private organ and improvisation students.
